Because the substantial income levels of Diners Club holders do not require
them to pay for purchases over specified credit terms, the Diners Club card acts
as a charge card. In other words, the Diners Club card affords the member the
opportunity of using plastic as opposed to cash, but upon presentation of a
monthly bill, the card settlement is paid in full. There are no monthly
repayments as with credit cards.
Using Diner's Club for online transactions is simple and available anywhere
MasterCard is accepted. Transactions can be conducted in multiple currencies,
and there are hardly any regional limitations to the cards use. The card holder
provides the online vendor with his card and verification information, and the
payment or deposit is affected. This convenience is one of the key advantages to
utilising the Diners Club Card. The most important advantage however, are the
notorious perks offered by Diners Club for the regular use of their products and
services. The greatest being the accrual of voyager miles with every
transaction made, which card holders can redeem for free flights and flight
upgrades. There are also other rewards redeemable, including accommodation,
travel and entertainment vouchers. In addition, the Diners Club card allows
passengers to utilise their exclusive airport lounges and concierge services,
and provides them with free basic travel insurance whilst abroad.
So, in essence, it pays to pay with Diners Club. This seems to be the
transaction method that rewards its clients the most. However, there are
drawbacks to using Diners Club, in that the transaction charges tend to be
rather steep when compared with credit cards or e-wallet solutions for instance.
Also, from an online procurement perspective, Diners Club is daunted by the same
security and fraud threats that credit cards face. Because each transaction
requires that the card holder issues pertinent personal and banking information,
he/she is open to identity theft and fraudulent activity on his/her card. For
this reason, it is advisable that Diners Club members carefully scrutinise the
security protocols and privacy policies of the online vendors they wish to use.
