Because the Olympic Games only comes around once every four years, it is a very big deal for everyone concerned, from the participating nations, athletes and officials, to the host nation, sports fans and, of course, Olympic Games betting fans.

These days betting is part and parcel of just about every sport and event there is, and the prestigious Olympic Games is certainly no exception. In fact, the 2012 London Olympics - which gets underway on Friday, July 27th - is expected to attract the biggest number of betting fans and overall take in the Games' illustrious history, mainly as a result of online betting sites.

Ever since the advent of online sportsbooks in recent years, sports betting has never been more convenient, easier, discreet or widespread. Where before sports fans had to trek down to their local high street betting shop, now they can place just about any bet they want from the comfort, privacy and security of their own home or office.

Some Sportsbooks Offer Mobile Betting Facilities

Some online sports betting sites have even rolled out state-of-the-art mobile betting facilities for smartphone and smart device users, which means they can wager 'on the go', from pretty much anywhere in the world using with mobile platforms that include internet connectivity.

In fact, this relatively new mobile betting technology is expected to be highly utilised during the 2012 Olympics, and as a result, the owners and operators of most leading online sportsbooks are reportedly looking forward to the just over two-week event with much anticipation.

But betting fans themselves stand to benefit the most, because as the biggest online sportsbooks in the UK and beyond compete to offer the best and most competitive selection of Olympic betting lines, odds and specials, it means they have an enormous choice of Olympic markets at their fingertips - literally.

Betting Sites Boast Many Olympic Betting Lines

Right now, for instance, the biggest British sports betting sites - including William Hill, Ladbrokes, Bet365 and Paddy Power - have posted a multitude of London Olympics betting markets that cover many of the major Olympic events.

One Olympic betting line that is expected to attract a lot of attention at most sportsbooks is the Men's 100m, because it is always traditionally one of the most popular Olympic events. And this year betting fans are eager to see if the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, can increase his total number of Olympic medals to four.

In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the lanky Jamaican won gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay respectively, also setting new world records in the first two. But not satisfied with that, Bolt went on to win three gold medals in the 2009 World Championships in the 100m and the 200m, followed by two more golds in the 2011 World Championships in the 200m and the 4x100m relay.

Usain Bolt Expected to be Well-Backed in 100m

Which is why all eyes will be on him in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and why punters will no doubt back him to the hilt at both land and online sportsbooks.

But the Men's 100 is just one of approximately 300 events scheduled this year from 39 disciplines out of 26 sports, which means Olympics betting odds galore.

Olympic sports include Athletics, Basketball, Cycling, Handball, Diving, Badminton, Triathlon, Football, Field Hockey, Swimming, Water Polo, Tennis, Volleyball, Rowing and many others.
