Aston Villa Overview
Aston Villa FC is a famous English football team which currently plays in the country's highest football tier known as the Premier League. The side is also known by various nicknames including Villa, the Villa and the Villans. Founded in 1874, Aston Villa is located in Aston, Birmingham. As one of the oldest and most successful professional football teams in England, Aston Villa helped found The Football League in in 1888, and almost a century later in 1992, helped found the English Premier League.

Over the years Aston Villa has won the First Division Championship seven times, the FA Cup seven times and the European Cup (now known as the UEFA Champions League) twice, one of only four English football teams to do so. Their biggest and longest-serving rivals are local Birmingham team, Birmingham City, as the two teams have been going at it since 1879.

Aston Villa's uniform is one of the most recognizable in the world, with its bold claret shirts (with sky blue sleeves), white shorts and sky blue socks.

Manager
Since 2007 former Scottish footballer turned manager Alex McLeish has guided Birmingham City with impressive results. By mid-January 2010, McLeish led Birmingham City to a record 12-game unbeaten streak, a club record in the English Premier League. Alex McLeish resigned after they were relegated in the 2010/2011 season and joined Aston Villa.

Aston Villa were THE club that created league football. They were not "one of the founders". League football was the brainchild of Villa chairman, William McGregor. It was hewho invited a number of clubs to join his league.
