Blackburn Rovers Overview
Blackburn
Rovers FC is a professional English
football club that currently plays in
the English Premier League, the best
football league in the country. It is
located in the town of Blackburn,
Lancashire. The team has many nicknames
including the Rovers, the Blue and
Whites and the Riversiders. Founded in
1875, Blackburn Rovers have the
distinction of being one of only three
English football clubs that were founder
members of both the Football League
(1888) and the English Premier League
(1992). The other two teams are Everton
FC and Ason Villa FC.
Despite its formidable history, in terms
of football achievements Blackburn
Rovers has had many hardships. For
instance, most of the club's successes
came about prior to 1930, when it won
several Football League and FA Cup
trophies. But after that, the team went
into a downward spiral. And in 1966, it
finally hit rock bottom and was
relegated for a record 26 consecutive
seasons, before finally playing its way
back into the (new) Premier League in
1992. Blackburn's owner, steel baron
Jack Walker, hired Kenny Dalglish as the
team's manager and invested tens of
millions of pounds on new players such
as Alan Shearer.
The result was that in 1995 the
Blackburn Rovers became the English
Premier League champions. But that
success was short-lived as in 1999, the
club was again relegated. Two years
later, however, it fought its way back
into the Premier League where it has
remained ever since, winning the League
once and qualifying for the UEFA Cup on
four occasions.
The uniform of Blackburn Rovers consists
of large striped dark blue and white
jerseys, white shorts and dark blue
socks.
