Burnley Overview
Burnley FC
is a professional English football club
located in the town of Burnley in
Lancashire county. Commonly called the
Clarets due to the deep red in Burnley's
uniforms, the club has a long and rich
football heritage. For instance, in 1888
it was a founder member of the Football
League, a precursor of today's top-tier
English Premier League.
Burnley won the prestigious FA Cup in
1914 and became Football League
Champions in the 1920-21 season and
again in the 1959-60 season. In 1961 the
side managed to reach the quarter-finals
of the coveted European Cup. And
although Burnley has been out of the
English Premier League between 1979 and
2009, it has the distinction of being
one of only three English football clubs
to have triumphed in all four English
football divisions.
From 2000 and 2009 Burnley played in the
country's second-tier football division,
but after winning the 2009 Championship
play-off final in fine style, the club
got bumped up to the English Premier
League for the first time in 33 years.
Burnley's uniform consists of a claret
jersey with blue sleeves, white shorts
and claret socks.
Manager
Eddie Howe was the youngest ever player/manager and at Burnley he has players that are older than him. He has little managerial experience but everyone has to start somewhere.
Home Ground
Turf Moor
in Burnley. Has a capacity of 22,546.
