Portsmouth Overview
Portsmouth
FC is a professional English football
club located in the coastal town of
Portsmouth in Hampshire. Known by its
nickname 'Pompey' or 'The Blues',
Portsmouth was founded in 1898 with the
help of John Brickwood, owner of
Brickwoods Brewery. He became club
chairman while Frank Brettell was
appointed the club's first ever manager.
From then until now Portsmouth has been
a big fixture in professional English
football and has accrued its fair share
of trophies and accolades. These include
winning the Premier League in 1949 and
1950; the FA Cup in 1939 and 2008; the
Football League Second Division in 2003
and many others. For the last seven
years Portsmouth has played in the
English Premier League. However, as of
February 2010, Portsmouth is facing not
only relegation, but grave financial
issues that will either result in the
sale of the club or even bankruptcy.
The Portsmouth uniform consists of a
royal blue jersey, white shorts and red
socks.
Manager
After
helping Portsmouth win the FA Cup in
2008, manager Harry Redknapp left in
October of that year to coach Tottenham
Hotspur. He was replaced by his former
assistant, Tony Adams, who was replaced
just four months later by Paul Hart. In
November 2009 Hart was replaced by
current manager, Avram Grant.
Home Ground
Fratton
Park in Portsmouth. The venue has a
