Each season UK bookmakers offer odds on who will emerge as the EPL's top goal scorer. It is one of the most popular futures betting markets on offer for English Premier League punters, even though it is tricky to predict these days as there are so many talented strikers in the league.
The first Premier League in its current incarnation was played in 1992/93 and since that inaugural season a total of thirteen different players have won the title of leading goal scorer, or at least grabbed a share of the Golden Boot.
Alan Shearer, who still holds the record for the most Premiership goals scored overall (a whopping 260 goals, which puts him more than 70 ahead of his nearest competitor), won the award three times. This feat was surpassed by Thierry Henry who went on to claim four leading scorer titles while he played at Arsenal. He even managed to score goals without his hands in those good old days.
Besides Henry and Shearer other multiple winners are wee Michael Owen (twice) and not so wee Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.
These days the men to watch for the title include Torres (Liverpool), Drogba (Chelsea), and Rooney (Manchester United), but with many of the world's best players competing in the same league it is a tricky betting market to predict beforehand. Still, it is one of the most entertaining bets to place and gives you an interest all season long!
