The pass line bet in online craps is the most popular bet that is made.
However, even though the don't pass line bet follows along the same principles,
this bet is not as popular as some of the other bets that are on offer at a
craps table.
There is a very simple reason for this. When you make a don't pass line bet,
you are in essence betting against the shooter and therefore against most of the
other players at the table.
Pass line bets are generally placed by the shooter because the shooter will win
this bet for a winning throw. The don't pass line bet works in the exact
opposite way - if the shooter loses then this bet will win, with one exception.
How the Bets Work
After the come out throw, the shooter will be hoping for a 7 or 11 to win. If
you have placed a don't pass line bet then you will be hoping for a 2 or 3. Even
though the shooter will lose with a throw of 12, the don't pass line bets will
be pushed with the dealer and you can either take your money back or let it ride
for the next throw of the dice.
If none of the above numbers are rolled (2, 3, 7, 11 or 12) then this is
known as the "point". In order for the shooter to win the point must be rolled
(one of the remaining numbers being 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 or 10).
The dice are rolled until the shooter either makes the point or rolls a 7,
which will result in the shooter losing.
However, if you have placed a don't pass line bet then the shooter rolling a
7 will result in you winning.
Odds
Online casinos will pay out even money to a winning don't pass line bet.
Although this bet offers the same odds as the pass line bet, there are many
players who avoid this bet due to the fact that others at the table consider
this bet bad etiquette.
However, at the end of the day you are playing to win for yourself so you
should not be swayed too much by what others at the table are thinking. Online
casinos offer more anonymity in terms of this betting type. Don't pass line bets
are therefore at online casinos than at land based casinos.
