There are several roulette systems which gamblers use to try better their
odds of winning. Some of these systems rely more on luck and some are grounded
in sound mathematical and statistical probabilities.
One of the more popular roulette systems is the D'Alembert system which
was developed in the 18th century by mathematician/philosopher Rond D'Alembert.
Like most roulette systems, the D'Alembert system, also called the Pyramid
system, works best when used on even-money bets - Odds/Evens, High/Low,
Red/Black. Taking into account that there is just a slightly less than 50%
chance of hitting correctly on this bet (don't forget the 0 or 00), this
roulette system hypothesizes that the win/loss ratio will always be around 50%.
When there is a double zero in play then the house edge is 5.27%.
How it Works
The first thing you have to do is choose a bet that you will start off with.
This bet should be just above the minimum table bet. In this way, you are
protecting your bankroll. You will then choose a percentage to increase your
bet. Let us assume that it is 10% for now.
If you have placed a winning bet then you will decrease your next bet by 10%.
If, however, you lose then you will increase your next bet by 10%.
The Up-Side to the System
The D'Alembert system is completely self-dictated. This means that you can
stop playing at any time without feeling that you have broken a sequence -
unlike many other roulette systems. Furthermore, due to the fact that the bets
never increase or decrease too much, you will not be able to lose too much money
if you hit a bad streak.
The Negatives to the System
The system does not allow you to up your bets if you are on a winning streak.
Often, you will be tempted to do so. This may not be a bad thing because it
forces you to play more cautiously. However, if you hit a losing streak and you
keep upping your bet according to the system then it will seem as though you are
just throwing away your bankroll. You will also not be able to record massive
winnings, unless the starting bet is large and your percentage increase is also
significant.
Overall, this system is one of the simplest roulette systems to master. If
you are a beginner then this is a great place to start off. Once you have
mastered this system you can try some of the more complicated ones for
variation.
