Overview of Sic Bo
Sic bo is a game that is played with 3 dice. Players bet on the numbers that the
randomly thrown dice will land on. There are many different bets that can be
placed in the game of sic bo, such as odd, even, big, small, doubles, triples
and many others.
Sic bo is a game of chance that originated in Asia. It has since spread
around the globe and is popular in both land-based and online casinos. It is
particularly popular in the United States, the United Kingdom, the Philippines
and Macau. Depending on where you find yourself in the world, you will find that
sic bo is known by a variety of different names, including "tai sai" (literally
"lucky dice"), "dai siu" (literally "big small"), "big small" or "hi-lo."
In addition to the different names that sic bo is known as, the game has
different variations which are of English origin.
Grand Hazard - a Variation of Sic Bo
Like sic bo, the old English game of Grand Hazard is played with three dice.
These dice are rolled into a specially designed chute with inclined planes that
they continue to roll the dice as they descend. The aim of Grand Hazard, as with
sic bo, is to predict the numbers that the dice will land on when they stop
rolling. Players can place a number of different bets.
There is another game of English origin which is known as Hazard. The game of
Hazard is played with two dice and it is unrelated to both Grand Hazard and sic
bo, although the similarity in the names can make it confusing.
Chuck-a-luck - a Variation of Sic Bo
Chuck-a-luck, which is also known as birdcage is actually based on the game of
Grand Hazard, although it developed in the United States. Chuck-a-luck uses
three dice which are contained in a wire cage, something like a birdcage, hence
the alternative name for the game. The cage is rotated by the dealer and the
dice are allowed to settle on the bottom of the cage. The aim of the game is for
the player to bet on which numbers the dice will land on. Many different bets
can be placed as long as they are single number bets. It may also be possible to
place a triple bet - a bet that all three dice will land on the same number.
Chuck-a-luck used to be common in casinos in Nevada, but it has lost popularity
to sic bo and it is now difficult to find.
The Popularity of Variations of Sic Bo
Despite the fact that the variation of sic bo, chuck-a-luck originated in the
United States and that it used to be common in land-based casinos in Nevada, it
has lost favor to the Asian game of sic bo. It is now difficult to find
variations of sic bo - grand hazard and chuck-a-luck in any casinos, land-based
or online. Sic bo, on the other hand can be found in almost all land-based and
online casinos.
