There are many versions of video poker available. Although these all function
along the same rules, you need to know the subtle differences between all the
games so that you can play them all. These games differ mainly in payouts and
lowest acceptable winning hands.
There are too many versions of video poker to cover them all, so here is just
an overview of a selected few. Even though some are more popular than others,
they all have their string points.
Jacks or Better
This version of video poker is one of the most popular and requires you to
have at least a pair of Jacks to win.
Deuces Wild Video
A Deuce is another name for a Two. In this game, all the Twos are like
Jokers, which means that you can use these as any other card.
Tens or Better
Just like Jacks or Better, in this game you need at least a pair of Tens to
qualify for a winning hand.
Deuces and Joker Poker
This is exactly like Deuces Wild, but there is also a Joker in the deck which
means that you have 5 wild cards.
Louisiana Double Poker
In this game there is a special Double Card. If you have a winning
combination as well as the Double Card then your winning credits are doubled.
Jokers Wild Video Poker
This version of video poker adds a Joker to the deck of cards which can be
used as any other card in the deck to make a winning combination.
Double Joker Poker
This is exactly the same as Jokers Wild but there are two Jokers in this
instance.
Triple Double Bonus Video Poker
Normally, video poker pays out 3:1 for Three of a Kind. However, this game
only pays 2:1. Although this does throw the odds more in the casino's favour,
there is a payout of 800:1 for four Aces and a Two, Three or Four.
Loose Deuces
This game is basically Jacks or Better, but with an added bonus. All the Twos
in the deck function as Jokers which can be used as any card to make up a
winning combination.
Aces and Eights
Again, this game is another variation of Jacks or Better which is the most
popular video poker game. There are no added wild cards in the deck but there
are special payouts for Four of a Kind. Four Sevens will pay out 50:1 and four
Eights or four Aces pays out 80:1. In fact, any Four of a Kind (other than
those) pays out 25:1.
