El Gordo Review
El Gordo, or “the big one” has one of the biggest prize pools of any lottery.
This lottery is differently run than most.
Most lotteries have drawings once or twice a week. This lottery, however, has
drawings twice a year with the largest being the Christmas drawing. Here, there
is a prize pool worth between €2 and 3 billion.
Buying tickets for El Gordo is also a unique process. These tickets are
expensive and can cost €200. However, if that cost is slightly above a player’s
price range, participants can join a group of friends or family members and go
in together to buy a ticket. This is typically called a syndicate and is a very
popular way to participate in the lottery. When this is the case, the tickets
are divided into tenths and each share costs €20. Within El Gordo there are 195
jackpots each worth €3 and another 195 jackpots worth €1. In all, there are over
13,000 cash prizes to be won.
