Mega Millions Review
Millions originally went on sale in only six U.S. states including Georgia,
Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Virginia and Michigan back in 1996. Today,
tickets can be bought in 35 jurisdictions with the possibility of ten more
coming in the spring of 2010. Tickets can be bought up to fifteen minutes before
drawing time on each Tuesday and Friday.
Like Powerball, Mega Million tickets cost just $1 and players choose five
numbers from one to 56 and one Mega Ball number from one to 46. Also like
Powerball, winners have the option of taking a lump sum cash payment or an
annuity.
However, this annuity is paid over 26 years rather than 29. Any winning
amount from $250,000 and less is set, but the jackpot can vary wildly. Since
2002, jackpots begin with a minimum amount of $12 million and if there is no
winner, the amount will continue to grow until the jackpot is won.
