Plans for a massive casino complex for the city of Hull were unveiled
this week by one of Europe's largest gambling operators. The UK based Apollo
Resorts and Leisure, in partnership with Casinos Austria International, wants to
construct a casino to the tune of 25 million GBP and is doing all it can to
ensure that the plans leave the drawing board.
The fruition of these plans will depend very much on whether Apollo Resorts
and Leisure manages to secure the large casino license issued by the UK
government to the city of Hull. Early next year, Hull will invite applicants for
the license to operate a casino with up to 150 slot machines that offer 4,000
GBP jackpots.
The new casino is set to open in a new complex named Manor Mill which
obtained planning permission this year. Part of the permission included the
incorporation of three levels of a casino complex (nearly 53,000 square feet)
within a nine storey building. Other features of the new complex include a
hotel, student accommodation and an apartment block.
"I think it is an exciting opportunity for Hull," said the Chairman for
Apollo Resorts and Leisure, Paul Gregg. "We are not only looking to opening a
casino under the government's new gambling legislation, but a full destination
resort including five new restaurants on the site to create a distinctive
attraction."
"We have looked at a number of other cities," continued Gregg, "and a number
of other sites in Hull but believe this is the most appropriate."
It is believed that if the casino license is secured, the new project will
create more than 1000 new jobs for citizens in and around Hull.
