Betfair, the major gambling company, with offices in many locations
around the globe, has announced the appointment of new Chief Technology Officer.
Tony McAlister, who has notched up nearly 25 years of experience in heading
IT divisions for global companies, will replace Rory Devine, who handed in his
notice to Betfair back in May, 2008.
Betfair has since spent exhaustive efforts in trying to find a replacement
for Devine, ending this week with the announcement that McAlister will take over
his duties from January 19th, 2009.
The Chief Executive Officer for Betfair, David Yu, said about McAlister's
appointment: "We are delighted to welcome such an experienced and capable Chief
Technology Officer to Betfair. I have no doubt that he is the right person to
lead our technology strategy, innovation and delivery into the next chapter of
our corporate development."
Betfair's engineering division employs 300 people from around the globe to
ensure that players have the smoothest gaming experience with practically no
hitches, and McAlister will head this team. The company processes close to five
million transactions each and every day and requires a system that offers
impeccable service for its sports betting, casino, poker and exchange game
platforms.
McAlister commented on his appointment as well and said: "Betfair has
demonstrated its ability to turn technology into a strategic business advantage.
I look forward to building on this success in my new role working with a
talented global team."
Over 1,350 people are employed by Betfair, mainly in Malta, London and
Tasmania and the company has won many lucrative awards over the years, including
the Company of the Year in the UK and the 2008 International Trade Award.
