While the Yarmouth borough in the United Kingdom received a license from the
Gambling Commission to construct a large casino complex at the beginning of the
year already, things are moving slow in this region. Nevertheless, progress has
been made and the Yarmouth council borough is hoping to continue negotiations
with four potential candidates who are eyeing to build the casino on Yarmouth's
famed Golden Mile stretch in the coming year.
The Golden Mile site was marketed around three years ago, with the intention
of building a casino and leisure complex should the area receive the required
licenses. From the beginning of the Yarmouth casino project, around sixty
consortiums have contacted the Yarmouth council to show their interest in
developing the area.
The Head of Regeneration with the Yarmouth council, Tim Howard, said that out
of the sixty initial enquiries, the number has been whittled down to a potential
four who are both willing and able to construct a big casino and leisure complex
at the centre of the Golden Mile.
It was stressed by other council members that when the time came to choose
the right candidate, preference would be given to schemes that could provide
employment for locals throughout the year.
The council believes that it will take at least another year before licensing
procedures are determined and candidates can officially apply for the license to
operate the Yarmouth casino.
"We will be communicating with the developers to keep them abreast of what we
are doing with the casino licensing process," said Tim Howard.
