A new darts event to hit the sports industry, the Players Darts
Championships, have received official sponsorship by top sports betting firm,
Coral bookmakers.
The event, to be held at the Circus Tavern in Essex, UK at the end of this
month, is considered to be a particularly prestigious competition. It will
feature the over 30 players from the 2008 Players Championship Order of Merit
playing it out against each other, with over £200,000 in prize money up for
grabs.
Both Coral bookmakers and the Players Championship will be teaming with the
Professional Darts Corporation as part of the sponsorship agreement.
The Chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC), Barry Heam, said:
"We are delighted to welcome Coral as the headline sponsor for the
www.coral.co.uk Players Championship. We
thank them for their support of this new event, and their backing is a
reflection of the interest this event has created in this sport."
The first place winner of the event will receive a whopping £50,000, while
the runner up will have to 'make do' with £25,000. Nobody earns the
tournament empty handed - even those who don't make it through to the first
round earn themselves £2,000, while prizes increase in value from £4,000,
through to £8,500 and £12,500 for the semi finalists.
"Everyone at Coral is delighted to be involved with this exciting addition to
the darts calendar," said the Managing Director of Gala Coral Remote Gambling,
Keith Hawkins. "We're looking forward to three days of exciting, top class
action from one of the sport's most recognizable venues. Betting on darts and
gambling online has exploded in recent years, and it's entirely fitting that
coral.co.uk is sponsoring the Players Championship."
