Jamie Burnett, the Scottish snooker player, announced this week that
he is positive that an investigation by the World Snooker body into alleged game
fixing will not turn up anything suspicious.
Burnett is adamant that his 9-3 defeat to Stephen Maguire in the UK
Championship opener stage was simply that - a defeat - and nothing more.
"As far as the investigation is going, I don't have any comment to make,"
said Burnett.
World Snooker announced that it would start investigations after UK
sportsbetting companies reported unusual wagering patterns on the game. Heavy
betting was reported on that exact scoreline.
"As far as I'm concerned, it was a snooker match that I lost - and that was
it. As far as I'm concerned, that was the end of it. But World Snooker have got
this investigation going," he said.
Burnett reiterated again that he had absolutely nothing to hide. "When I'm
playing snooker, I'm fine. I don't think about it at all because there is
nothing to think about. I don't see it as my problem.
"I don't have anything to answer for because I haven't done anything," he
continued. "As I said at the time, if they want to speak to me, they know where
I am. I've got nothing to hide, but it's down to them."
According to World Snooker, the organization does not know when the
investigation will be completed, leading to Jamie Burnett suspecting that he
will be receiving more attention than he would like when he heads to the
Crucible in April.
