Due to the fact that more people than ever play the National Lottery online,
the Gambling Commission has released new data showing that participation in
remote gambling is higher than it has ever been in four year of studies.
2000 adults were questioned for the survey, which takes place on a regular
basis - every quarter - by the UK Gambling Commission.
According to the Gambling Commission, while remote gambling participation was
shown as 7.2% in March 2006, that number rose to 8.8% in 2007, 9.7% in 2008 and
9.9% in March of this year.
Other interesting statistics show that:
- More men than women participate in remote gambling (12.2% versus 7.7%).
- Nearly 16% of the respondents were placed in the 15 - 25 year old age
group.
- The internet was the tool used most by remote gamblers for their
entertainment (up to 8.2% compared to last year's 7.8%).
- 2.8% of the participants used mobile gambling devices (down from 2.9%
last March).
- 2.1% used interactive TV, a number that remained unchanged from last
year.
As noted, the National Lottery was the main form of remote gambling
entertainment undertaken by participants in the Gambling Commission survey.
Out of those that indicated that they had taken part in at least one form of
remote gambling activity in the past year, just over 43% said that they had
played National Lottery games only.
