Recognizing the fast pace at which the online gambling world is changing, the
Alderney Gambling Control Commission has announced some sweeping changes
to its licensing framework.
The new system was showcased at that Gaming Executive Summit in Madrid, Spain
this week and the AGCC hopes that this will change the face of e-gambling
regulations around the world.
The new framework essentially separates online gambling into two groups -
those operators that are customer facing (aka B2C) and those operators that face
other businesses (B2B).
The AGCC said that in this way, the organization would be able to tailor
licenses to each specific operator that makes an application for a license.
"We conducted a detailed study of the industry and the regulatory landscape,
both of which are changing very rapidly, and we felt it timely to take a fresh
look at our licensing framework," said the Chief Executive of the commission,
Andre Wilsenach. "There were several key developments which influenced our
thinking: Firstly the emergence of new regulations and licensing regimes in
Europe and further afield - a trend we can only see increasing: secondly, the
entry to market of media companies who are new players in the e-gambling
market."
"We are also seeing increasing numbers of specialist service providers and a
growth in network gaming," continued Wilsenach. "All of this calls for a new
approach to deal with the technical requirements and business models in
evidence. We are also keen to strengthen our regulatory oversight on games and
services not necessarily delivered from our jurisdiction in order to provide a
high level of robust player protections."
