With the news that Gala Coral has had to let go hundreds of staff
members and shut down five more of its bingo clubs across the United Kingdom,
many are wondering about the future of the group's hugely popular bingo and
casino sites.
Gala Bingo has always been considered a forerunner in the bingo industry. The
site has always been synonymous with top quality games and innovative
promotions, yet over the past few years, there has been a change in the current
industry. Gala Bingo has had to compete within a market that has become tougher
and tougher to survive in, and the company has had to adopt an 'adapt or die'
policy in many aspects of its operations.
While Gala always favoured home grown games, it has had to move away from
this exclusive policy and incorporate games from external vendors in a bid to
keep up with the competition.
In May of this year, Gala Coral renewed its license for the fourth
consecutive term with Chartwell Technology for a flash based casino and soft
gaming products - continuing the relationship through to 2012.
"Consistency in the portfolio is important to our client base, as is
innovative new content," said the Director for the Remote Gambling Division at
Gala Coral Group, Daniel Phillips at the time of the license renewal. "Chartwell's
core product and development roadmap offers both of these, and we look forward
to working with them over the next three years."
Experts suggest that Gala Coral continue along the lines of providing good
software from external groups such as Chartwell Technology and undertake a
realignment of its business strategies, in a bid to remain the number one gaming
group in the UK.
