September 17th is the date set for NetPlay's SuperCasino.com to go
live on television in the United Kingdom.
Yet the move has already caused concerns among gambling opponents who are
voicing their opinions ahead of the day.
Five television station will start to broadcast SuperCasino.com up to three
times a week, a move that is likely to affect the future of casino gambling not
only in the UK but across the globe.
The new broadcast will allow UK players to create their own gambling accounts
at the casino and wager on television.
Bets will be made via telephone or the internet on games to be played out in
the televised casino. For example, after bets are placed, the roulette wheel
spins and any winnings are credited to the player's account.
But while many UK punters are rubbing their hands in glee with the news,
gambling opponents have made their concerns about the new broadcast known.
The Director of MediaWatch UK, John Beyer said about SuperCasino.com: "This
is a money making enterprise from a commercial TV company struggling from a lack
of revenue."
Beyer said that he was anxious about people engaging in gambling this way.
"People who can't go to a casino will be able to gamble on TV," he said. "People
who cannot afford it will be attracted to it."
These fears seem to be unfounded, however, as there is sure to be enough
regulators keeping a close eye on the new venture that will bring a new level of
entertainment to UK players.
