Alderney's approval of a new licensing scheme should place the jurisdiction
in a prime position to build relationships with the EU and other countries in
the world.
The island's government gave the green light on the new regime which will
contribute significantly to the state coffers and make Alderney compatible with
other licensing jurisdictions around the world.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Alderney Gambling Control
Commission, Andre Wilsenach said: "We are grateful to the Alderney government
for the swiftness with which they have dealt with the legislative amendment
which means we can launch the new licensing regime on time, as planned, from the
1st of January, 2010."
"The new licensing scheme will not imply a major change in our regulatory
approach but it recognizes the fundamental changes that have and are still
taking place in the e-gambling industry where we see a much great level of
specialization in the areas of business to customer and business to business
relationships," he added.
The government praised the Control Commission for its hard work and
contribution to the island.
"This new framework was drafted from the outset with not only the interests
of the jurisdiction in mind but also operators and other regulated jurisdictions
at its very core, "said the Head of eCommerce Development, Robin Le Prevost.
"We believe we have an important contribution to make to the sector going
forward," he continued. "Our first class technical infrastructure, our
experience of setting technical standards for gaming specific software backed by
a competitive fiscal regime, are all powerful reasons for considering Alderney
as a base for conducting egambling, facts which have already established
Alderney as the larges operational base for egambling in the world."
