The $3 million Breeders' Cup Turf (Gr 1) scheduled for Saturday, November 7 at Santa Anita Park in California is expected to deliver some high octane
horseracing action consider ring its impressive field of three-year-olds and
above. Check out our Breeders Cup Turf Betting Guide:
While the Breeders' Cup Turf only has 8 starters this year, there are a few
runners capable of preventing defending champion Conduit (7/5) from repeating
his win from last year. That said, the 4-year-old colt will start as the
favorite as he's run well this season for trainer S R Stoute. He'll be ridden by
R L Moore.
Next up is Spanish Moon (5/2), also trained by S R Stoute. With K Fallon
aboard this top-rated 5-year-old horse could well make it a first and second for
his trainer, assuming he gets off to a good start and doesn't get squeezed into
the rail.
Dar Re Mi (3/1) is a quick 4-year-old filly that should not be ignored.
Trained by J H Gosden, she ran very well in the recent Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe
at Longchamp Racecourse near Paris, where she finished 5 out of 19. She'll have
L Dettori up.
On paper Presious Passion (4/1) looks pretty good having held his own in
previous outings, but the 6-year-old gelding may well falter against stronger
rivals like Conduit. He is trained by E Trujillo and in the Breeders' Cup Turf
will be ridden by M Hartmann.
Now we move onto the long shots. The first is 5-year-old horse Telling
(20/1), who won this year's Sword Dancer Invitational Handicap.
However, a similar run on Saturday probably won't cut it. He is trained by S.
Hobby and will be ridden by L J Castellano.
Red Rocks (20/1), you may recall, won the Breeders' Cup Turf in 2006, but has
passed his prime. That said, the B Meehan-trained runner may still have enough
left to cause an upset on Saturday, especially ridden by champion jockey J R
Leparoux.
Monzante (30/1) has run very well in the past over turf and may surprise on
Saturday. As a 5-year-old gelding he is no spring chicken, but his trainer M R
Mitchell has looked after him well and so he should be well-prepared for jockey,
R Bejarano.
And finally Allegre (50/1) who, although I love the odd long shot, should
probably be avoided. Despite being one of the youngest in the field as a
4-year-old colt, he doesn't run like it. Trained by B J Koriner and will be
ridden by L J R Velazquez.
For our money, these are the three horses you should definitely add to your
Breeders Cup Turf Betting Guide pick list: Spanish Moon, Conduit and Monzante.
