While sportsbooks across the board were bemoaning their poor third quarter
results due to English Premiership football results, the Swedish group, Betsson
has come up quietly from behind to post excellent third quarter financial gains.
This week, the group announced that it was posting a 17% increase in its
third quarter income before taxes.
This meant that its income rose from last year's SEK68.2 million to this
year's SEK79.6 million.
Management were pleased with the results and said that improvements were seen
both in the sportsbetting arena and through the group's successful casino
offering.
"We are happy to see that gross turnover in sportsbook continues to be high
compared with comparable figures," said that Chief Executive of Betsson, Pontus
Lindwall.
"Casino also develops strongly, partly due to partner co-operations," he
added.
A number of rival sports betting group, including Ladbrokes, William Hill
Online and Unibet, blamed the unfavourable English Premiership results for their
poor third quarter performance.
Out of the first sixty six games played in August and September this year,
only 6% ended in a draw. This was down from a five year average of 25%.
Nevertheless, Betsson found that its strong infrastructure could support
these differences and, as noted, the odds did not effect its overall
performance.
Betsson also released mobile betting and live streaming in the past quarter
in a bid to further enhance its player's gaming experience.
