After Friday's draw that saw all the qualifying teams for the FIFA World
Cup divided into groups, the time has come for oddmakers to step in.
Bookies have examined the potential scenarios arising from specific teams
pitted against each other and how these may influence the final outcome of the
competition that will take place in Cape Town next year.
Sportsbetting sites have Spain topping the top goal scorer list, with their
unbeatable David Villa at 9/1. This will be Villa's second World Cup as he
participated in 2006 as well as the UEFA Euro 2008.
During the 2006 World Cup, Villa scored three goals and he was the top scorer
in 2008 - making him the second top scorer of all times for Spain behind the
legendary Raul.
Brazil's Luis Fabiano has odds of 10/1 for being the top scorer of the
competition. The player joined his country's team for a World Cup qualifying
match in 2007 and since then has regularly helped bring his team to victory.
During the Confederations Cup final against the United States this year, Fabiano
scored two goals, winning the game for his team.
Paddy Power's Odds for Top Goal Scorer as currently as follows:
D Villa (Spain) 9/1
L Fabiano (Brazil) 10/1
F Torres (Spain) 11/1
W Rooney (UK) 12/1
L Messi (Argentina) 14/1
