The Eastlands site owned by Manchester City football club may soon to
be turned into a multi million pound entertainment center that will incorporate
a Las Vegas style casino.
It has been reported that the Arab owners of Manchester City have put in an
offer to buy the football stadium from city council and plan to buy up land
around the stadium to develop the project.
Sheikh Mansour, owner of Manchester City, said that the center would cost
around GBP 500 million to build.
"When Sheikh Mansour wants something doing then it is done," one source has
reportedly said. "Money is absolutely no object at all. He will throw everything
he has at it. Whatever is built will have to be the best. They know how to turn
extraordinary dreams into reality."
The Eastlands site is currently located in a run down suburb, but plans are
already underway to transform it into a large theme park, including a luxury
casino and hotel and plenty of retail outlets.
Some of the Eastlands land had previously been earmarked by the city council
for the creation of a supercasino.
These plans were eventually blocked by the Brown government.
Sheikh Mansour is confident, however, that he will be able to secure
permission to begin building his dream casino and stressed that a project on a
scale as large as this would create thousands of jobs and boost the local
economy.
Architects have already been hired to plan the new development, which has
been dubbed the "Vegas of the North".
