The next mayoral elections will only take place in 2012, but already bookies
are placing odds on the various candidates as they put themselves forward as
potential leaders of London.
Paddy Power has the present mayor, Boris Johnson as the firm favorite at
8/11.
His predecessor, Ken Livingstone is set at 8/1 to return as mayor in 2012.
An interesting candidate to keep an eye on is Peter Mandelson, whose
grandfather, Herbert Morrison headed the London City Council during the crucial
1930's.
However, are family connections enough to get Mandelson into power?
Paddy Power doesn't seem to think so and has installed Mandelson at 12/1 as
the next mayor of London.
According to a spokesperson for Paddy Power: "It's unlikely such a political
operator as Mandy would put himself forward in any election unless he thought he
could win it. That wouldn't appear to be the case at the moment but the
situation could change if Boris and the Tories shoot themselves in the foot
before 2012".
The latest odds for the next mayor of London at Paddy Power are as follows:
Boris Johnson: 8/11
Ken Livingstone: 8/1
David Lammy: 11/1
Peter Mandelson: 12/1
Alan Sugar: 12/1
