eCOGRA Dispute Statistics Released

by Renee Israel

Report released on how disputes were mediated by eCOGRA group

eCOGRA (eCommerce Casino and Online Gambling Regulation Assurance) released its latest report that shows how disputes were mediated by the group.

The Fair Gaming Advocate for eCOGRA, Tex Rees, regularly provides statistics to show the number of disputes and how they were resolved.

The latest statistics show that nearly 50% of disputes were mediated in favour of the online casino player.

The report covers the 141 online casinos that carry eCOGRA accreditation.

Highlights of the report were as follows:

  • 826 disputes were received.
  • 83 of these did not to relate to eCOGRA operators and therefore could not be mediated.
  • 115 of the disputes were deemed invalid (ie. anonymous, non specific or abusive).
  • Of the 628 remaining issues, 303 were mediated in favour of the customer.

Rees commented on the report and said: "The average number of valid disputes handled per week was 12.07, slightly up on the 2008 number of 10.6."

"Taken over a total of 141 'Safe and Fair' seal websites, that amounts to an average of 0.37 issues per site per month, an minute increase over the 2008 number of 0.36. That remains an industry leading dispute statistic by any standards," she said.

The majority of the disputes (46%) involved cash in problems, while 22% of them involved bonuses.
