Alderney was pleased to announce that its new licensing framework has
been up and running since the beginning of the month, and will be showcased at
the upcoming IGE exhibition in London next week.
The newly revamped framework reflects the changing landscape of the global
egambling industry, with specific focus of the dynamics in Europe.
The major advantage to the Alderney regulatory regime is that it is in
modular form, meaning that operators and gambling groups need only choose the
parts that fit their businesses.
The advantage of a modular system is that operators are able to keep their
costs down by adapting certain parts and not being forced to pay for a
'one-size-fits-all' regulation.
Some of the features of Alderney's new regime include:
- A new Category 1 license to cater for a growing trend whereby operators
outsource their gambling activities. This fast track category allows
licenses to be issued in as little as 4 - 6 weeks.
- Category 2 license caters to B2B (business to business) services.
- The introduction of a system that recognizes and has the ability to
license equipment that is located outside the Alderney jurisdiction.
"However well thought through, a significant revision of the licensing
legislation fills you with some trepidation as to how it will be received," said
that Director of eCommerce Development for Alderney, Robin Le Prevost. "But I
think we can say, even though it is early days, the new scheme seems to have hit
exactly the right note and enquiries and applications have shown a significant
increase."
"2009 continued a pattern of growth for Alderney as a jurisdiction." said Le
Prevost, "but it was a difficult year for some - especially the new start ups -
but one can sense a new energy, and we are very much looking forward to 2010."
