Manchester United, tired of seeing its players using social networking sites
such as Facebook and Twitter to talk about the internal goings-on of their club,
have decided to simply ban all their employees from using these sites.
In a written statement, the club said: "The club wishes to make it clear that
no Manchester United players maintain personal profiles on social networking
sites. Fans encountering any web pages purporting to be written by United
players should treat them with extreme skepticism."
According to reports, Manchester United is so keen to take on these
preventative measures that the club recently took control of Twitter accounts
belonging to Wayne Rooney, Darren Fletcher and Ryan Higgs.
Since last summer, bookies have been predicting that Premier League
football clubs will ban their stars from using Twitter and Facebook.
Now that that Manchester United has actually placed the ban, online bookies
are having a field day predicting which football club will be next to ban their
players from these sites.
Paddy Power recently posted odds on the next Premier League Club to ban
players from Twitter.
According to the site, Tottenham Hotspur has odds of 4/1 of being the first
team in the current 2009/2010 to officially confirm in a statement by the
Premier League team manager on the ban.
Odds at Paddy Power are currently posted as follows:
Tottenham Hotspur - 4/1
Liverpool - 6/1
Hull - 8/1
Stoke - 8/1
Bolton - 10/1
Blackburn - 10/1
Burnley - 12/1
