Ordinary is the one word that would be used to describe the West Country
couple who joined some of the richest people in the UK, after winning a
staggering £56,008,113.20 through the EuroMillions Lottery.
The couple, Nigel Page and Justine Laycock, both divorcees with three
children from previous marriages between them, recalled their victory moment
when they learned that their lives have changed forever.
Page said that he had gone down to breakfast on Saturday morning and heard on
the news that the £112 million EuroMillions ticket had been won by two people
- one in Spain and the second in the UK.
Still joking with his daughter about their chances of winning, Page logged
onto his computer to check his ticket and was stunned with what he saw.
"It just popped up on the screen," he said. "'Congratulations: You have won
£56 million and 20 pence.'"
After waking his partner to check that he wasn't hallucinating, the couple
broke the news to their children.
"We just went into the front room and stood there laughing," said Laycock.
"It was an amazing feeling."
The win was first confirmed with the National Lottery operator, Camelot,
before the couple decided to splurge on a breakfast out with their family -
bacon sandwiches at their local supermarket.
"We couldn't even swallow," recalled Laycock. "We all sat around with our
bacon rolls, all of us in a state of shock."
Page, who - as owner of the winning ticket becomes the 980th richest person
in the UK - has also said that he'd like to use some of his money to try his
luck at gambling.
