UK bookies said they had never seen anything like it. In mass hysteria akin
to the famous US soap opera Dallas season that ended with the "Who shot JR?"
question, UK Eastender fans were left wondering 'Who Killed Archie
Mitchell?'
An incredible 17 million people turned on their tellies to find out the
answer last week, and bookmakers were run off their feet with punters wagering
on the answer before the Live Anniversary show screened.
Bookies such as Paddy Power know that their customers enjoy these type of
novelty bets and even though the true killer of Archie Mitchell has been
revealed, they are now offering bets on the next person to die in the soapie.
Some of the options are:
- Jack Branning - Clearly the favorite to 'die' first. Branning's real
life character suffered a stroke last year and it may be time for him to end
his illustrious career on Eastenders.
- Barbara Windsor - Announced that she would be retiring from the show
this year. But will she be killed out of the script?
- Phil and Sam Mitchell - Brother/sister team who are hugely unpopular on
the show. But will Eastenders kill off two important characters at once?
Incredibly, TV experts have noted that since Eastenders first screened in
1985, 70 characters have died in the neighbourhood. With death figures such as
these in such a small radius of space, it's a good thing that Eastenders is
fictional!
Paddy Power is offering odds on the next person to die in Eastenders. Odds
are currently offered as such:
Jack Branning - 3/2
Peggy Mitchell - 5/1
Janine Butcher - 8/1
Phil Mitchell - 8/1
Sam Mitchell - 10/1
Max Branning - 10/1
