Hyundai, the giant car manufacturer, has decided to respect a Motion Picture
Academy rule that nominees may not appear in show ads and has pulled an ad
featuring Jeff Bridges' voice.
Bridges has been voicing ads for Hyundai since 2007 and he features in a $160
million promotion for the car group's new Sonata Sedan.
Hyundai planned to run the ad during the Academy Awards this year, but - in
deference to the rules of the show - decided to pull the ad from the prime slot.
Jeff Bridges has been nominated to win the Oscar for Best Actor in the
upcoming Academy Awards.
His acting in the movie Crazy Heart has been described as brilliant, and
bookies are offering odds that he will be the eventual winner of the award at
1/6.
Another contender for the Best Actor award is George Clooney in the movie Up
in the Air.
In terms of Best Actress, it seems that it will be a tough choice between
Sandra Bullock and Meryl Streep.
Paddy Power is offering odds of 8/13 that Bullock's portrayal in the Blind
Side will win her an Oscar, while Meryl Streep's role in Julie and Julia has
odds of 7/4 that she will win.
Odds on Best Actor at Paddy Power are currently listed as follows:
Jeff Bridges (Crazy Heart) - 1/6
George Clooney (Up in the Air) - 6/1
Colin Firth (A Single Man) - 10/1
Morgan Freeman (Invictus) - 18/1
Jeremey Renner (The Hurt Locker) - 18/1
