What are the chances of Ireland qualifying for the final leg of the
Eurovision 2010 song competition?
Paddy Power is offering odds of 1/3 that the Emerald Isle will make it
through to the finals on May 27th.
This week, Ireland voted that Niamh Kavanaugh will represent the country at
the 55th Eurovision Song Content competition which will take place in Oslo in
May.
Kavanaugh's performance of the song "It's for You" won the public vote and
hopefully will see the usually successful Ireland make it through to the finals
- something that it failed to do last year.
"It's for You" was written by a quartet of talented songwriters - Marten
Eriksson, Jonas Gladnikoff, Lina Eriksson and Niall Mooney.
The Eurovision song contest will prove a peace of cake for Niamh Kavanaugh,
who took the country to victory with Jimmy Walsh's song "In Your Eyes" in 1993.
The song became an overnight success in Ireland, becoming the country's top
selling single and reaching number 24 in the UK Singles Chart.
Two semi finals will be held in Oslo in May, and Ireland is scheduled to sing
in the second one on May 27th.
If the country qualifies, Niamh will represent Ireland in the finals on
Saturday May 29th.
Paddy Power's odds for Ireland's chances in the Eurovision are as follows:
Ireland to qualify for Eurovision final 2010 - 1/3
Ireland not to qualify for Eurovision final 2010 - 2/1
Ireland to win Eurovision final 2010 - 14/1
