They say charity begins at home, and an English couple who recently won a
whopping £56 million EuroMillions lottery jackpot meant it literally as
they generously gave their old four-bedroom home in Cirencester, Gloucestershire
to their long-time cleaner, after moving into a £4 million mansion.
The generosity of the lucky couple, Nigel Page and Justine Laycock, made
headlines around the UK, as news of their £56 m EuroMillions windfall
along with their 'good deed' became public. According to a friend of the lucky
couple, they decided that their cleaner Denise Kelso was worthy of such a gift.
Said the unnamed friend, 'As they [Nigel Page and Justine Laycock] were not
living at their old house any more, they wanted to give it to someone who would
appreciate it, and they knew that person would be Denise.' Kelso, an ex-pub
landlord, is expected to move into the house with her husband James.
But the EuroMillions lottery jackpot-winning couple did not stop the generosity
there, because they also made a gift of Laycock's old Honda Civic to Kelso.
Whether part of the couple's generosity or her loyalty, Kelso has agreed to keep
working for Page and Laycock at their new home, which bears testament to the
kind of relationship she has with the winners. As to what Laycock replaced her
Honda with, why a new BMW of course, refuge of the neauvo riche.
The EuroMillions lottery draw is held once a week, on Friday. Unlike the
bi-weekly UK National Lottery which is only open to UK lottery fans, the
EuroMillions lottery is open to lottery fans from 9 European countries, Austria,
Belgium, France, Ireland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
As such, it is one of the largest lotteries in the world as a result of the
sheer number of players that play it from across Europe. To date Delores
McNamara holds the record for the biggest single EuroMillions lottery jackpot
payout when she held the winning ticket to £77,000,000 (€115.6 million or $139
million).
