UK weather experts have extended the restriction currently in place over UK
controlled airspace due to the ominous ash cloud caused by an erupting Iceland
volcano.
The lockdown has caused havoc among air travellers in the United Kingdom and
around the rest of Europe, with hundreds of thousands stranded and Heathrow
looking like a ghost town.
Not to be left out of the fun, betting sites across the UK have opened
markets regarding the next volcano to erupt, with Mt Unzen in Japan being the
first favourite at 3/1.
In the meantime, Icelandic geologists said that there seemed to be no end in
sight to the activity of Mount Eyjafjallajokull and that eruptions could
continue for months.
As long as ash continues to billow from the volcano, say the experts, there
will be continue to be restrictions on British airspace, heralding "quite a
prolonged spell of problems."
"We know when things are going to happen, what is difficult to predict or
understand is how long a volcanic eruption is going to go on for," said Dr.
Dougal Jerram of Durham University. "Some are relatively short lived, but some
are months long."
Stranded passengers are finding the wait frustrating, many times
uncomfortable and nerve-wracking as they do not know when they will be able to
return home.
