Not only is Italy known for great food, fast cars and hot-blooded lovers, but
also for its love of football, and with its premier football league, known
locally as Serie A, coming to an end, Italian football fans will be glued to
their TVs come Sunday.
Like the English Premier League and Spain's La Liga, this season's Serie A
Championship has also come down to just two teams - Inter Milan, who lead
with 79 points, and AS Roma who have 78 points. Milan are in currently in third
place with 67 points.
But the Serie A champions were almost decided last Sunday, when Internazionale
had enough points to win the league. However, that was only if Roma tied with
Cagliari, Which they were, until Roma forward Francesco Totti slipped one in to
make it 2-1.
The extra goal kept AS Roma alive to the enormous relief of their fans. So now
the 2009-10 Serie A Championship will all come down to whether Inter
Milan and AS Roma can win their respective Sunday matches, as well as how many
goals each can score.
Inter will play Siena, who is currently 19th in the Serie A standings and will
be relegated at the end of this season as a result. As such, Serie A betting
fans will no doubt be banking on a high number of goals to be scored by the
reigning Serie A champs.
AS Roma, meanwhile, will play Chievo, who are currently 13th in the Serie A
standings. While there is little doubt that Roma will go into Sunday as the
Serie A Championship underdogs, anything could happen and Inter Milan could just
be dethroned.
The team from Milan has had a cracker of a season so far having beaten AS Roma
to win the 2010 Coppa Italia, and reached the finals of the UEFA Champions
League, where it will face tough German team Bayern München on May 22 in Madrid.
If Internazionale Milano successfully defends its Serie A Title on Sunday and
goes on to win the UEFA Champions League later this month, and with the Coppa
Italia under its belt, it will become the first Italian football team ever to
win the coveted 'Triple'.
