UK Man Claims £84m EuroMillions Lottery Jackpot

by Ryan D. Jaeger

A man has won the EuroMillions lottery
On Friday last week lottery history was made in the UK after a single EuroMillions lottery ticketholder won a mammoth £84.4 million, the nation's biggest single lottery payout to date, eclipsing the previous record of £56m.

Although Camelot, the UK National Lottery operator, has confirmed that a 'man' has indeed come forward to claim the whopping EuroMillions lottery windfall, he has reportedly requested to remain anonymous for the time being.

To put the EuroMillions lottery payday in perspective, the lucky winner will automatically become Britain's 789th wealthiest, putting him ahead of actor Sir Sean Connery (£80m) and comedian Rowan Atkinson (£70m).

Said a Camelot spokesperson earlier this week regarding the enormous windfall, 'We are looking forward to welcoming the lucky EuroMillions lottery ticket holder to our millionaires' club, which is already 2,400 strong.'

This recent EuroMillions lottery jackpot is almost double the £45.5 million won in November last year by Les and Sam Scadding, from South Wales, and a syndicate in Liverpool. It seems that lotto jackpots are getting bigger.

However, while this £84.4 million EuroMillions lottery is a record-breaker in the UK, it is small fry compared to the size of lottery jackpot payouts in the United States. In February 2006 a Nebraska syndicate scooped $365 million.

The syndicate of eight meat plant workers still holds the record as the recipients of the single largest Powerball jackpot. But while they each won $45.6 million, the EuroMillions lottery winner grossed the equivalent of $122.1 million.
