Inter Milan made history by becoming the first Italian professional football club to win the coveted treble in a single year, namely the Coppa Italia, the Serie A title as well as the
2009-10 UEFA Champions League.
On Saturday Inter Milan fans went crazy at the Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain, the venue that hosted the 2010 UEFA Champions League final, when Inter beat top-rated German club Bayer Munchen 2-0, which was enough to clinch the title.
It is an understatement to say that Inter Milan has had an incredible season, with the majority of the credit for the team's superb and consistent form attributed to the team's Portuguese coach, Jose Mourinho, who has led the side since 2008.
Unfortunately for Inter Milan, no sooner was the shiny UEFA Champions League trophy in hand then Mourinho confirmed rumours that he is moving to Real Madrid. And who can blame him, having taken Inter Milan as far as they can go.
In addition, Mourinho is very ambitious and now that he is only the second football coach in history to win the coveted UEFA Champions League with two clubs (the first in 2004 with F.C. Porto) he will attempt to make it three with Real.
And while Inter Milan as well as its fans will sorely miss Mourinho, they'll bear him no grudge considering how much he helped the club achieve in such a short time. Until this year it was 45 years since Inter Milan last won the Champions League.
As to who will fill Mourinho's shoes, Inter officials reportedly have their eye on England coach, Fabio Capello. But Capello has his hands full right now finalising the England squad that will travel to South Africa for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
