Gearing up for the incredible wagering activity that they expect to see during the World Cup this month, bookmakers are offering their customers a number of ways to place bets on their favorite teams.
Betfair is the latest group to announce an additional way for players to enjoy the World Cup, by offering a sports betting app for Apple iPhone users.
Players will essentially be able to enjoy everything that the Betfair site has to offer - all off their handy iPhone platforms.
Betfair claims to be the first established betting company to offer a sports betting app for the iPhone.
But competition is already rising in the online gambling industry, as companies fight to get players to their own platforms.
UK betting giant, William Hill, has also submitted an application to Apple in a bid to make available a downloadable predictor app that will help punters make their wagers during the World Cup soccer season.
Other groups such as Bwin and Tabcorp have also made these requests in recent weeks.
Paddy Power is also considering such a move but predicted that there may be difficulties getting Apple to approve.
"We're definitely thinking about it," said a company spokesperson, "ideally before the World Cup. " But he noted: "There can be problems getting the application through Apple."
Betfair's new app has been designed to be extremely user friendly and is currently available only to iPhone users in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Players will have their locations verified before they are allowed to use the new app.
