Bodog Buys Slots Domain Name

by Ryan D. Jaeger

Bodog has purchased the Slots.com domain name for $5.5 million

Speculation has been high in the industry regarding the name of the person who purchased the Slots.com domain name through a bidding process.

This week, it was learned that the buyer is none other than BodogBrand.com, through the group's founder, Canadian billionaire, Calvin Ayre.

Tipped off by a SEO specialist that the domain name was up for sale, Ayre said that he conducted the biding off a bar stool in London, and was thrilled when his offer for $5.5 million was accepted.

"After Casino.com, we feel that Slots.com is the best gaming domain in the world," said a satisfied Ayre. "Bigger even that Poker.com because there are no strong brands in this space and slots are far more universal than poker. Just look at the amount of space a casino devotes to slots over poker, added to which it's simple to spell and easy to remember."

Indeed, the popularity of slots is an incredible phenomenon and the very word triggers no less than six million searches on Google every month.

"Slots.com will work for us on a number of levels, not least in generating global traffic to our Bodog branded properties, but also to form a number of other targeted websites including one that will be created by and for the female gambler," said Ayre.

In the past, $5.5 million was paid for Casino.com and $10 million for Poker.com.

This is the highest amount paid for a domain name this year so far.
