Betting Markets Open on Premier League Vuvuzela Use

Bets on which EPL club will sell their own branded vuvuzelas

The constant drone of vuvuzelas - those plastic horns sold by the millions - sound like a swarm of bees on any TV screen tuning in to World Cup matches from South Africa.

But if football fans thought that they've seen the last of these horns, they maybe surprised to hear that the English Premier League has ruled that it will not impose a blanket ban on the use of vuvuzelas at matches next season.

As such, a novelty betting market has opened offering odds on the first Premiership team to sell their named brand of vuvuzelas.

A Premier League spokesman said on the matter: "Nothing in our rules specifically prohibits instruments from being brought into grounds as these matters are dealt with at a club level. It will be down to stadium managers, in consultation with supporters groups, to determine what is appropriate."

According to a Football League representative, there is every reason to believe that vuvuzelas will appear in English grounds.

He said that it was a matter for individual clubs to decide, as was the case for drums and other musical instruments.

In the meantime, across the channel, a number of clubs have already announced that they intend banning the vuvuzela in their stadiums.

Borussia Dortmund already announced that it has banned the horns from its Westfalenstadion next season, with the horns already banned from the majority of public events in Germany due to their supposed health risks.

"Our fans don't want to have these trumpets," said the general manager of the club. "It is nerve racking and completely drowns out everything."

The betting market that shows favourites for the first team to offer its own name-brand of vuvuzelas is as follows:

Manchester United: 4/1

Chelsea: 6/1

Newcastle: 7/1

Manchester City: 8/1

Liverpool: 10/1

Everton: 10/1
