Bookmakers like Paddy Power responded quickly to England's 1-0 win over
Slovenia and shortened their odds to win the World Cup to 15/2.
After their poor performances in the first two games, England's odds moved
out to 10/1 at Paddy Power and even longer at some other bookmakers. However,
last night's performance will have gone a long way to restoring the faith of
thousands of punters and indeed millions of fans.
Paddy Power himself said: "England are back in the game! Now we're bracing
ourselves for a colossal wave of patriotic punts as the country dares to believe
again."
