Odds On Larry King Replacement Point To Piers Morgan

by Renee Israel

Piers Morgan has best odds to replace Larry King

Larry King, long time show host presenter, made a dramatic announcement this week when he said that he would be stepping down from his successful show on CNN in the fall.

King has appeared almost non stop in the same spot for 25 years and is ready to move on.

"It's time to hang up my nightly suspenders," he tweeted to fans after the announcement.

The question on everyone's list is who will CNN bring in to replace King?

UK bookmakers have picked up on the intense interest in King's successor and have opened betting markets.

A natural favourite is Piers Morgan, who is known in the States as an "American's Got Talent" judge.

Odds of 6/4 are being offered on Morgan replacing King, although he is definitely not the only one possibly interested in the job.

King himself has said that he would like to see American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest take over from him, and odds of  6/1 are being offered at bookies that this will indeed be the case.

Another natural option is Katie Couric, with odds of 8/1, although she reportedly told CNN last month that she was not interested in the job.

King's magnificent career saw him conduct around 50,000 interviews over a span of 53 years.

His short, to-the-point questioning style made him a firm favourite in the United States and around the world, although his ratings began to sag recently.

King would not admit that a drop in ratings was a catalyst for his decision, and rather focused on all the reasons why it is a good idea to end his career on a high.
