Thanks to an iPhone betting application launched before the World Cup to enable mobile betting, Ladbrokes betting company announced that this arm of its business is doing extremely well.
Numbers were compared to the last big soccer event, Euro 2008, and Ladbrokes were keen to publish facts.
Among them was the fact that the record for the number of bets placed on single event has been broken, with 100,000 mobile bets recorded on the World Cup alone.
The group also said that it had taken four times as many mobile bets than it had during Euro 2008.
In addition, betting turnover across Ladbrokes' mobile channels has doubled in the past year.
Incredibly, there has been a six times increase in the number of players who bet through their mobile devices on an exclusive level.
"Mobile betting and gaming is a significant growth area and smartphones, especially the iPhone, have dramatically improved the user experience," said the Managing Director for Remote Betting and Gaming at Ladbrokes, John O'Reilly.
"We're delighted to be the first major bookmaker to launch a full betting application in the app store and we'll follow this World Cup product with a range of other applications tailored to different betting and gaming audiences - the first being a tailored application for the next domestic football season," he added.
