For Alan Stringer and Wally Jinks, lifelong pals from Edenthorpe, England, a recent
UK National Lottery ticket proved to be life changing when it yielded the lucky pair a whopping £2,033,705 jackpot windfall.
Edenthorpe, a sleepy village located in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, was abuzz with excitement when the news got around that two of its residents had become the latest
UK Lottery millionaires, each snagging £1,016,852.50.
Although he now has more cash than he knows what to do with, 51-year-old Wally cannot touch his winnings for a few more days or until his bank cards get PIN numbers, after losing his wallet returning from a short holiday.
Wally could not believe his bad luck when coming back from a 5-day trip to Jersey with his wife Dawn, he mislaid his wallet. But just as he was resigning himself to the inconvenience of replacing his cards, he got the good news.
Said Wally, who owns a tyre repair business, 'I can't spend any of the money yet as I lost my wallet while I was on the plane. I had no money and no cash cards for a while. Now I've got the cards but no PIN numbers yet.'
Meanwhile, 50-year-old Alan has already started spending his UK Lottery winnings, starting with the sensible purchase of a second-hand Vauxhall Astra to replace the 13-year-old Citroen he bought for £400 in 2009.
Said Alan, who is an electrician, 'I always said if I won a million I would put it in the bank and live off the interest. I can pay off the mortgage. Fifty is not a bad age to win the money - I can spend it wisely and will take my time.'
