Betfair's Group Director of External Affairs, Mark Davies, is leaving the company after ten years of service.
In an industry where management exchanges are common and top executives usually change after a few years, Davies is considered something of an icon for being with Betfair for over a decade.
Betfair is an online sportsbetting exchange operator and Davies has been the company's voice for a long time. He was part of the initial management team and had previously worked in the media for BBC and Daily Telegraph.
Davies has decided to vacate his position in Betfair in order to set up a consultancy business that he is calling Camberton.
Betfair released a statement regarding Davies' departure:
"Mark has been with the company since it was little more than an idea and has helped it grow to the largest online sportsbetting business. Over the last decade, Mark has become recognised around the world for his eloquence and authority in debating issues of integrity in sport, the benefits of well regulated gaming for all sports and, above all, a fair deal for punters. We are grateful for all Mark has done for Betfair and look forward to his continued counsel. We wish him the very best of luck in his next adventure."
Davies said that while it had been fun in the recent months, he felt he has not been able to offer Betfair as much as he would like to and what he is best at doing.
In a statement Davies said: "I have set up a company of my own, Camberton, which will offer to a broader church the sort of thing that I have been responsible for at Betfair over the last decade; reputation management, public affairs, public relations, communications and external stakeholder management. It's something I have talked about for a long time and now is the time to do it and I'm pleased that Betfair think I still have a role in offering that kind of thing to it because it is my first client."
