Johnny Depp, one of Hollywood's highest paid actors, may be taking on the role of one of Britain's most popular male TV characters.
The television series, Doctor Who, has been broadcast for quite some time now on BBC, with the current title role played by Matt Smith.
Since the program first aired in 1963, no less than 11 men have played Doctor Who.
Entertainment blogs first started the rumours that Depp will play in a new film being planned for the big screen, and it was these same blogs that published a denial of these rumours soon afterwards.
However, Paddy Power and other UK bookie sites seem to believe that we should see the show move to the silver screen and that it is just a matter of time that an official announcement will be made.
As such, Paddy Power has opened a betting market that has Depp listed as the fore runner at 2-1 to play Doctor Who.
Depp, of course, is no stranger to the screen. He has played Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Mad Hatter in the latest Alice in Wonderland Movie and also starred in Pirates of the Carribean.
Johnny Depp himself has not confirmed or denied the rumours, and Doctor Who fans are waiting with baited breath to see whether they will be able to see this top actor in their favorite TV-show-come-movie.
Odds at Paddy Power for the actor who will play Doctor Who in a cinematic release of the show:
Johnny Depp 2/1
Matt Smith 9/4
David Tennant 8/1
Hugh Grant 10/1
Orlando Bloom 12/1
Colin Firth 14/1
