Engage Super League Bottom Side Crushes Wolves

by Anton Johan

Warrington Wolves was beaten by Catalans

In a great match this weekend, the Engage Super League bottom side team, Catalans, defeated the high flying Warrington Wolves by a marginal 29-28.

This is only the Dragon's fifth win during the rugby campaign and their coach, Kevin Walters, expressed his relief over the victory.

"I'm happy with our performance today, we did some great things, there were a couple of times in the first half that we were soft defence, but generally I thought it was a great effort from the guys," he said.

Walters said that the team responded nicely to some harsh criticism from many sectors after their poor performance last week, although he did not deny that the criticism was well deserved.

"We have managed to get a result and performance tonight and it means a lot to us given our tally and where we are in the table, and every week does count."

The Catalans meet the Warrington Wolves in the Challenge Cup semi final again in exactly a fortnight and the coach saw their past victory match as a dress rehearsal leading up to the important game.

"Regardless of who we were playing today, we knew that if we could manage to slide a win in there we could get some momentum going into next week and then of course the match the week after," he said.

"That's all today was about really, getting some momentum in the way we play."

Ever the good sportsman, Wolves coach Tony Smith said: "We started a bit flat today, and I thought our opponents outplayed us today and deserved their win, they showed great desire."
